Edward "Eddy" Gonzalez joins Next Step after spending the past few years working in many aspects of the soccer world. Eddy spent his collegiate career playing at NCAA DI American University in Washington DC before finishing his playing career and his degree in Sports Psychology at St Lawrence University in Canton, NY. Following his final collegiate season, Eddy was asked to stay on and serve as the Assistant Coach under Head Coach Michael Toshack. During this time St Lawrence captured three straight regular-season conference championships, three straight conference tournament championships, three time NCAA tournament qualifiers, and were ranked as high as #5 in NCAA DIII nation poll. Eddy moved on from St. Lawrence to join Black Rock FC for their inaugural Prep Academy season where he coached the U-16 boys team and assisted the U-18 boys team alongside Black Rock FC founder, and CEO, Jon Moodey. The year together proved fruitful for the club as the teams won the NEP League and the Connecticut State Championship for their respective age groups automatically qualifying for the US Club Soccer National tournament. During his time at Black Rock FC he was able to coach and help in the development of many players who have gone on to play at some of the best collegiate soccer programs in the country which then allowed many of his players to sign professional contracts in the MLS and European leagues. He has worked with many of the top players both in the USA and abroad in order to help them and their families achieve their athletic and academic goals.
Nick provides a unique experience for his clients due to the wide variety of personal experience is the founder of Next Step Soccer. He has grown up his entire life in Attleboro, MA. Around the age of 10 he began to play Club soccer for various teams including Black Watch Premier, NEFC, and Scorpions SC where he won the U13 Massachusetts State Cup along with numerous local and regional tournaments. At 14 he was asked to join the New England Revolution Academy where he spent time from 2012 to 2017 totaling 118 games played. As an academy standout it helped gain him national attention as a Top 150 recruit in the class of 2017 by CollegeSoccerNews.com. In the fall of 2017 he attended Michigan State University to join the Big Ten powerhouse. Spending 3 years there, Nick played a total of 27 games even making it to an NCAA Final Four in 2018. After a season ending injury his Sophomore year he came back strong his Junior year as he started all but one game for the Spartans. In the following off-season after receiving a contract offer from the New England Revolution organization he decided to full-fill his life long dream and become a professional.
